Mariano Tan, Jr. recently replaced his father on Forbes’ list of richest people in the Philippines. Unilab has been the recipient of many industry awards, including Outstanding Employer of the Year from the Personnel Management of the Philippines (1979), Global Filipino Company from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (2006), Grand Kapati Award from Employers Confederation of the Philippines (2007) among others. Pfizer, an American multinational pharmaceutical corporation headquartered in New York City, reportedly sued Unilab in 2009 for making a generic version of the popular cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor. Mariano Tan also sits as the President of the Fides Foundation, a non-profit organization for abandoned elderly.
