Lara suffered his first loss to Paul Williams in July 2011. In June 2013 he defeated Alfredo Angulo to win the interim WBA Light Middleweight title. In June 2015 Lara defeated Delvin Rodriguez to retain his WBA Light Middleweight title and win the vacant IBO Light Middleweight title. As of April 2018 his professional record was 30 – 25 – 3 with 14 knockouts. On April 7, 2018 Erislandy Lara lost to Jarrett Hurd. Lara earned $1 million for the fight, Hurd earned $500,000. The purses were career-highs for both fighters.
