Hauptmann was named captain of the offensive line in 2011, and finished his college career starting all 37 games he appeared in. Phil Steele named him to his postseason all-conference team in both 2011 and 2012, and he made second team All-Sun Belt in 2011. Hauptmann was nominated for the Outland Award in 2012, the highest honor an offensive lineman can achieve in college. After going undrafted during the 2013 draft, Hauptmann was signed as a free agent by the Cleveland Browns. He was later released and re-signed to the practice squad. In September 2013, he was signed off the Browns’ practice squad by the Seattle Seahawks, though he didn’t appear in any games during the season.
